February 9, 2017

President Jerry Brown spoke on "The Life of Peter Francisco." The new officers were installed. They are the same as last year. The next meeting will be April 13, 2017. John Hay Chapter will meet March 16th. Also, Daniel Guthrie will meet February 21st. Clifty Creek will meet March 7th. Also the House of Delagates meets April 15th.>

April 13, 2017

The Speaker was President Jerry Brown and the topic was "American Revolution Hero Brigadier General Daniel Morganl." The EMT Award was given to Valleri Curry(above) and the Law Enforcement Award to Darrin Downs. The next David Benton Meeting is June 8th in Brownstown at the Dairy Queen.">

The Speaker was Mrs. Helen Wildermuth and her topic was "Cleanimg Cemeteries & Headstones" The Fireman Safety Award was given to David Freeman(above). >

Auigust 10, 2017

Compatriot Ed Hitchcock spoke on "The Viet Nam Memorial in Washington D C." The Flag Display Certificate Award was given to Max Roeder of Goecker Building Supply and the Superintendant Robert Hooker(above) of the Seymour Community Schools Administration also received the Flag Display Certificate.">

October 12, 2017

Vice-President Glen Killey was in charge of the meeting. The program by the Vice-President was "A Time to Kneel by Ted Nugent. The Hero Award was given to Sgt. Brandon White of the Seymour Police Department for his help in a rescue situation.">

December 14, 2017

President Jerry Brown told of the new "Revolutionary War Museum in Yorktown, Virginia" Also, Treasurer Darrell Scifres announced that $335.25 was sent to the Louisville VA for a Christmas Gift using money collected from David Benton Chapter members at each meeting during the year.">

Here is a picture from the grave marking, the David Benton chapter SAE, the Daniel Guthrie Chapter SAR the Genral Charles Scott Chapter DAR and Richard Lord Jones Society CAR plus the Indiana State Sons Of The American Revolution color Guard took part. There were between 60-70 people in attendance. The picture is of the 20 people who were related to Jacob Young in attendance.

About the SAR
The objects of the Sons of the American Revolution are to perpetuate the memory of the people and events of the American Revolution, to maintain the institutions of American Freedom, and to promote fellowship among the descendants of Revolutionary War Patriots.

Some of the notable activities of the Sons of the American Revolution include:

  • Arrange with local high schools for their participation in the Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest.
  • Arrange with local high school authorities for participation by students who are in their junior or Senior year in the George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest.
  • Place and dedicate SAR bonze markers at the graves of members and/or Revolutionary War verterans.
  • Furnish capable and interesting speakers to schools, organizations, public meetings, and other similar events and gatherings.
  • Sponsor or participate in celebrations of historic events and national holidays.
Our chapter conducts many more activities than these listed, but this list has been kept short for sake of brevity.
Membership Qualifications
Any male shall be eligible for membership in the Society who, is a citizen of good repute in the community, is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who was at all times unfailing in loyalty to, and rendered active service in the cause of American Independence either as an officer, soldier, seaman, marine, militiamen or minuteman, in the armed forces of the Continental Congress, or those of any one of the several Colonies or States, as a signer of the Declaration of Independence, as a member of a Committee of Safety or Correspondence, as a member of any Continental, Provincial, or Colonial Congress or Legislature, as a foreign national of, but not limited to, France, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland or Germany who came to North America and rendered service in the cause of American Independence or as a recognized patriot who performed actual service by overt acts of resistance to the authority of Great Britain, provided, however, that no person advocating the overthrow of the Government of the United States by use of force or violence shall be eligible for membership in the Society. The Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, United States 501(c)3, corporation devoted to historical and educational preservation of American revolutionary heritage. As a patriotic lineage society, the organization is comprised of the male descendants of patriots who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783.
